Description:
Hooting Owl combines a working artisan distillery with an opulent lounge bar close to York railway station. Its small-batch gins, vodkas and rums are distilled on site, with around 25 house spirits available alongside cocktails, craft beer, wine and prosecco. Visitors can call in for drinks and food or book a guided distillery tour with tastings and a closer look at the production process.

Explore the National Railway Museum, walk the city walls from Micklegate Bar and then settle into Hooting Owl for a distillery tour or cocktail. It is also dangerously convenient for the station, although ordering another tasting flight may convert your planned train into a much later one.

Hooting Owl puts the stills close enough to the bar that you can see where the important work happens. The spirits are made on site, the setting feels suitably indulgent and a proper tasting tour makes choosing a favourite far more enjoyable than simply reading bottle labels.
