Description:
The Hop is a lively Fossgate favourite serving Ossett Brewery beers, craft drinks, wood-fired pizza and regular live music in one of York’s best food-and-drink streets. It’s relaxed, buzzy and dangerously good at turning “just pizza and a pint” into a full evening with a soundtrack.
Good for:
Craft beer, cask ales, wood-fired pizza, live music, open mic nights, casual drinks, group catch-ups, dog-friendly pub stops and anyone who believes pizza tastes better when there’s a band warming up in the corner.
Nearby:
Fossgate, Walmgate, Shambles Market, The Shambles, Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, York Castle Museum, Clifford’s Tower.
Make a Day of It:
Start with a wander through Shambles Market and Fossgate’s indie shops, then head to The Hop for pizza, beers and a proper sit-down. Stick around for live music or open mic night if it’s on, because nothing says York night out like craft beer, melted cheese and someone absolutely going for it on acoustic guitar.
The Tidy Take:
The Hop is one of those York spots that just works: good beer, proper pizza, a cracking street and regular live music without making a big song and dance about it. Although, to be fair, there may literally be songs. A top shout for an easy pint, a casual meal or a low-effort night that quietly becomes brilliant.
