Description:
La Piazza Antica is an independent Italian restaurant set inside a Grade I listed building dating back more than 500 years. Its menu covers freshly made pasta, stone-baked pizza, seafood, steaks and homemade desserts, supported by Italian wines, aperitivi and cocktails. Guests can eat in the cosy front restaurant, beneath the high ceilings of the main dining room or outside in the peaceful courtyard, with dedicated vegan and children’s menus making larger gatherings easier to organise.
Good for:
Fresh pasta · stone-baked pizza · Italian seafood · steaks · homemade desserts · vegan options · family meals · romantic dinners · private celebrations · courtyard dining · set menus · Italian wine and cocktails
Nearby:
York Minster · Monk Bar · Treasurer’s House · Goodramgate · The Shambles · King’s Square · Richard III Experience · York’s Chocolate Story
Make a Day of It:
Start at Monk Bar, wander along Goodramgate and explore York Minster and Treasurer’s House before settling into La Piazza Antica for pasta or pizza. Afterwards, continue towards King’s Square and The Shambles, preferably after leaving enough room for tiramisu and an espresso. Historic York is considerably easier to appreciate when accompanied by carbohydrates.
The Tidy Take:
La Piazza Antica pairs Italian comfort food with a building that has been standing since long before anyone argued about pineapple on pizza. The rooms are full of character, the courtyard is a hidden bonus and the menu gives pasta lovers, pizza loyalists and serious steak people somewhere to agree on.
