Description:
NOLA is a New Orleans-inspired restaurant and bar housed inside a former congregational chapel on Lendal. Its 1920s Art Deco interior sets the scene for petite sharing plates, Cajun and Creole flavours, seafood, burgers and American desserts. Gumbo, jambalaya and Southern fried dishes are joined by an extensive cocktail list featuring classics such as the Hurricane, Sazerac and Mint Julep.
Good for:
Cajun cooking · Creole flavours · gumbo · jambalaya · seafood · petite sharing plates · Southern fried dishes · cocktails · Art Deco interiors · date nights · celebrations · evening drinks
Nearby:
Lendal Bridge · Museum Gardens · Yorkshire Museum · York Minster · Mansion House · Stonegate · York City Walls · York Railway Station
Make a Day of It:
Explore Museum Gardens and the Yorkshire Museum, cross Lendal Bridge for a riverside walk and then head to NOLA for gumbo, jambalaya and cocktails beneath the chapel’s Art Deco styling. Afterwards, continue towards Stonegate and York Minster or return to the river for an evening stroll. A Sazerac beforehand may make the route feel considerably more musical.
The Tidy Take:
NOLA gives York a shot of New Orleans swagger inside one of the city’s most atmospheric dining rooms. The food is built for exploring, the cocktails take their job seriously and the Art Deco setting makes an ordinary Tuesday feel suspiciously glamorous. Order widely and save room for pie.
