Description:
Ruby Rae’s brings a full Nashville-inspired party to a converted Grade II listed church at the foot of Micklegate. Expect live country music, line dancing, cowboy hats and a lively drinks list covering themed cocktails, whiskey, draught beer, mocktails and alcohol-free options. It is more honky-tonk night out than quiet corner pub, particularly once the dancing starts.
Good for:
Live country music · line dancing · themed cocktails · whiskey · group nights out · weekend drinks · late-night dancing · cowboy hats · Nashville atmosphere · big celebrations
Nearby:
Micklegate · Micklegate Bar · River Ouse · Ouse Bridge · York city walls · York railway station · Clifford’s Tower · York Castle Museum
Make a Day of It:
Walk the walls from Micklegate Bar, stop for dinner along Micklegate, then head downhill to Ruby Rae’s for cocktails, live music and a potentially overconfident attempt at line dancing. By the end of the night you may own a cowboy hat, have a favourite country anthem and be referring to York as Nashville without explanation.
The Tidy Take:
Ruby Rae’s is bold, theatrical and entirely committed to the country theme. A former church filled with neon, whiskey and line dancing sounds unlikely, but once the band starts and the hats appear, resistance becomes fairly pointless.
