Description:
The Fulford Arms is a fiercely independent grassroots music venue and pub with a 150-person capacity, a busy programme of emerging bands, tribute acts, alternative nights and touring performers. Drinks come from a proper pub bar, while the spacious beer garden offers somewhere to regroup between sets. Food is not currently served, so arrive fed and ready for the music.
Good for:
Live music · grassroots bands · rock and alternative gigs · tribute acts · local performers · beer · intimate shows · dog-friendly beer garden · independent venues · discovering your next favourite band
Nearby:
River Ouse · Millennium Bridge · Rowntree Park · Fulford Ings · Fishergate · York Barbican · York city walls · Clifford’s Tower
Make a Day of It:
Take a walk through Rowntree Park and along the River Ouse, find some food around Fishergate, then head to The Fulford Arms for an evening of live music at reassuringly close range. Stand near the front if you are feeling energetic, or claim a strategic bar position and nod appreciatively like someone who definitely knew the support band already.
The Tidy Take:
The Fulford Arms is small, loud and hugely important to York’s music scene. It gives rising bands a proper stage, audiences a close-up gig and anyone near the speakers a gentle reminder to bring earplugs next time.
