Description:
The Market Cat is a three-storey Thornbridge Brewery pub on the corner of Shambles Market, serving craft beer, cask ales, hand-stretched pizza and proper York city-centre views. It is cosy downstairs, roomy upstairs and very good at making “we’ll just stop for one” sound like a lie before you have even ordered.
Good for:
Craft beer, cask ales, pizza, city-centre drinks, market pit stops, dog-friendly pub visits, casual lunches, group catch-ups and anyone who enjoys a pint with a side of Shambles Market people-watching.
Nearby:
Shambles Market, The Shambles, Parliament Street, Stonegate, York Minster, York’s Chocolate Story, St Helen’s Square, Grape Lane.
Make a Day of It:
Start with a wander through Shambles Market and The Shambles, then head to The Market Cat for a pint, pizza and a proper York pub pause. Grab a window seat if you can, then decide whether you are heading back out sightseeing or simply accepting that the pub has won.
The Tidy Take:
The Market Cat is a brilliant York all-rounder, central, characterful and properly useful for visitors and locals. Great beer, good pizza, market views and enough floors to make “just finding a seat” feel like a mini adventure. A tidy stop when you want York charm without the full tourist trap routine.
